E.U. – Talgo Takeover Halted by Spanish Veto

On 27 August 2024, the Spanish government said the takeover of Talgo would have entailed "insurmountable risks for national security and public order".

Background:

  • Hungarian consortium Ganz-Mávag Europe's €619 million takeover bid of Spanish train manufacturer Talgo
  • Ganz-Mávag  said the consortium would “take legal action both in Spain and in Europe”
  • According to the Spanish media, the veto is motivated by alleged ties that exist between Ganz-Mávag and Moscow
