Sweden – FI Fines Voleon Capital for Late Short Selling Disclosure

On 30 March 2022,  SWE FI ordered capital manager firm to pay SEK 100,000.

  • SWE FI imposed a special fee of SEK 100k on Voleon Capital Management LP after late short selling took place in Oasmia Pharmaceutical AB and Catena Media plc shares.
  • Voleon failed to correctly notify SWE FI that the firm's short net positions in the shares had reached and fallen below the relevant thresholds for notification to the authority.
  • The violations took place in 2019 and 2020 and occurred for various reasons, Voleon stated that there had been no intention other than to report correctly in a timely way.
  • The calculated penalty fee for the several violations was initially calculated to be SEK 120,000, but was reduced due to the firm's efforts to improve its reporting process.
