New Zealand – OIC Foreign Investment Changes

On 25 May 2021, NZ OIC said that the overseas investment amendment act 2021 received Royal Assent, and the earliest changes will come into force on 5 July 2021.

  • On the same day NZ GVT issued a press release on the end of emergency screening.
  • On 7 June 2021, the emergency notification regime (ENR) will be replaced by a more targeted national security and public order notification regime (NSPO).
  • This allows screening of investments in strategically important businesses that do not normally require consent under overseas investment act, like critical infrastructure.
