U.S. – AIMA Letter to SEC Chair Includes Short Selling Reporting Reform

On 23 April 2025, AIMA issued new letter to new SEC chairman on priorities including short selling reporting reform.

  • AIMA has written directly to SEC Chair Paul Atkins to congratulate him on confirmation as new Chair and to outline a series of targeted recommendations aimed at fostering efficient, well-functioning capital markets while promoting responsible innovation.
  • Follows SEC April 2025 reported swearing in new chairman, Paul Atkins.

Letter Summary

  • Stated AIMA's view on core principles - Support for Innovation and Capital Formation, Promotion of Sound Practices and Financial Stability, and to Improve SEC Functioning.
  • A more complete list of recommendations was provided in attached Annex, designed to ensure continued growth and vibrancy of the capital markets center, promote economic growth/capital formation and foster competition via streamlined regulatory framework.
  • AIMA stated it looked forward to working with him and with his fellow Commissioners.
  • This engagement will then address members’ key priorities include improving investor access to private markets, and reforming short sale position reporting, tailoring Form PF to its original purpose, as well as ensuring a smooth transition for Treasury clearing.
