On 15 April 2025, UK FCA updated guidance on notification and disclosure of net short positions to note Short Selling Regulations 2025 (StIn 2025/29) issued January 2025.

• Set out high level requirements for new UK short selling regime and give FCA powers to set out more detailed rules to complete, implement the new regime.
• FCA will consult on new short selling rules in Q3 2025; some aspects of the regulation will be implemented once FCA finalizes the new rules and made any technical changes.
• This includes the new requirement to publish aggregated net short positions by issuer.
• In the interim, existing UK short selling regime continues to apply, including public disclosure of individual firms net short positions in issuers at 0.5% threshold & above.
