On 27 March 2025, Thai SEC said it supported amendments re oversight.

  • Thai SEC said it supported a Cabinet-approved draft emergency decree amending the Securities and exchange act to enhance governance, law enforcement measures.
  • The amendments aim to strengthen investor confidence in the Thai capital market.
  • Follows Thai SEC November 2024 proposed four laws re digital capital market.

Regulatory Enhancements

  • Increased oversight of short selling activities to ensure fairness and transparency.
  • Enhanced supervision of capital market professionals to elevate their role in auditing and preventing fraud by listed companies; improved reporting rules for securities encumbrances to ensure investors receive complete data for investment decisions.
  • New legal measures to prevent potential damage from transactions by listed companies; in addition, expanded Thai SEC authority in conducting high-impact cases.
  • Thai SEC will gain investigative powers for high-impact cases, with completed case files sent to public prosecutors following due process; integration with police investigators and Department of Special Investigation officers to leverage expertise.
