On 19 August 2026, the Egypt’s Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) published regulations governing investment strategies including short selling.
- first regulation governing the lending and short selling of securities;
- FRA will designate the securities available for lending;
- funds will require a minimum cash collateral of 50% of the total market value of the securities;
- no more than 40% of a company’s free-float shares may be lent out to hedge funds, a limit which drops to 2% for individuals;
- regulation effective 20 August.
