S Korea – FSC, FSS Foreign Investor Accounts

On 21 June 2024, SK FSC, FSS issued status of foreign investors' accounts.

  • SK FSC, SK FSS, KRX published the results of inspection on investment accounts opened by foreign investors since the abolition of investment registration certificates.
  • Follows SK FSC, FSS December 2023 issued measures for foreign investors.

Inspection Results

  • Since 14 December 2023, foreign investors are allowed to use either legal entity identifiers (LEIs) or passport numbers to open their investment accounts at financial companies.
  • 1,432 new investment accounts (1,216 firms, 216 individuals) have been opened.
  • SK KFB revised its operations manual on real name financial transactions, to allow foreign companies to open accounts based on documents issued by their tax authority.
  • Plus, enabled foreign companies with LEI Level 1 or those with standing proxies based in South Korea to submit notarized power of attorney without an apostille.
  • Financial authorities, related organizations will promote publicity and communication with regard to measures to improve foreign investors' access to the capital market.
