India – SEBI Foreign Portfolio Investor Guidelines

On 4 August 2021, IND SEBI modified the operational guideline for foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) and custodians and designated depository participants (DDPs).

  • To operationalize amendment to SEBI (foreign portfolio investors) regulations, 2019.
  • Modified guidelines to say the contribution of resident Indian individuals shall be made through the liberalized remittance scheme (LRS) notified by Reserve Bank of India.
  • These shall be in global funds whose Indian exposure is less than 50%.
  • DDPs and custodians are requested to bring contents of this circular to clients notice.
